Description:

You will build a solid foundation in the core areas of electric power engineering: high-voltage technology, electrical machines and drive systems, power electronics, and electric power systems. These courses cover theory and application, from small components up to grid-level infrastructure. Battery energy storage, an increasingly critical area due to the global rollout of renewable energy and electric vehicles, is also included. Sustainable development is also a key theme throughout, and gets addressed in every course.

Throughout, you will combine theory and analysis with hands-on, practical work in laboratory environments. Mastering industry standard tools like SPICE, MATLAB, and finite element methods, you will gain experience with the diverse types of equipment, components, and measurement instruments used in the field. These laboratory exercises also include training in electrical safety, risk assessment and safe working procedures.

    To fulfil the general entry requirement for a master's programme at Chalmers (at advanced level/the second cycle), the prospective student must hold a degree that is equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years, 180 Swedish higher education credits) in either Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Energy Engineering or Engineering Physics, or the equivalent.


    Prerequisites: Mathematics (at least 30 cr. including Linear Algebra, Multivariable Analysis, Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Statistics), Electric Power Engineering (including Basic Electric Circuit Theory, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Power Systems), Automatic Control.


    To fulfill 30 cr. mathematics, the following courses; Electrical and magnetic fields, Electromagnetic Fields and Waves and Engineering Electromagnetics can also be counted as part of the credit requirement
